On the weekend of July 4th, we made the big leap and converted Luke's crib into a toddler bed!
Typically, when my little munchkin sleeps, he curls himself into a ball and crams up on the right side of the bed. He gathers all of the essentials - "deet" (his blanket), doggie, the monkey pillow, the elephant pillow, and occasionally Sully (from Monster's Inc.) - squishes them all together, then lays on top of the big, massive pile. That's how he likes to sleep.
It looks kinda like this (only imagine Luke's body sprawled on top):
I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about putting him in a bed that he could escape from. How would I get him to stay in? Will he wake up in the middle of the night and walk around the house? What if he just plays with the toys in his room instead of sleeping? What if he falls out of the opening where you can climb into the bed?
Now that he's been sleeping in the toddler bed for about two weeks, I think I can officially say that it has been a breeze!! He goes right to sleep at night and just lays in his bed in the morning until we come and get him! What a miracle!! He's doing an amazing job in the toddler bed and we are so proud of our big boy!
Another random story (because I have photos to accompany it)... is that Luke knows how to properly hold a pen/pencil!! After his birthday party, I put some water in the Aquadoodle pen (thanks, Rachel, Greg, and Evan!) and handed it to him. He amazed me as he used his other hand to rearrange it to the proper position! I was blown away! This kid is so observant!
